Fishing

Fishing in Spain is free if you have a fishing license. The licence can be obtained from the ICONA and the authorities of each province. There are three different kinds of licenses, depending on the type of fishing you want to do: sea, river and subaquaeous fishing.

Sea fishing
You can fish either by boat or from the many coastal beaches.

River fishing
This is the most popular kind of fishing in Spain. The interior of Spain boasts a wealth of waterways, mainly mountain rivers, and streams and gigantic reservoirs. Many different types of fish are living in these rivers: From salmon and innumerable kinds of trout to pikes. Naturally, your catch will also consist of fish that only exists in Spain such as the Samarugo, the Gambusia and the Lamprey. There is some very good sport for the trout angler but the best fisheries are controlled and day permits are required.

Subaquaeous fishing
This can be carried out at several Spanish coasts, which are very popular due to their rocky coasts and the clear water.

The authorities who, hand out the fishing licences (Licencia) are usually called Agencias de Medio Ambiente. Further information can be received at the Federación Española de Pesca, calle Navas de Tolosa 3, 28013 Madrid. Tel. 0034 153 283 53.
